Job Title: Database / Windows Server Support Engineer (Deep Technical Support)
Main Responsibility:
The Database / Windows Server Support Engineer focuses on continuous operation, project and change management of the Database and WINDOWS Systems, many of them within a high availability environment. The main goal is to minimize the amount of unplanned downtime in the customer’s production environment and to achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
Moreover this person has the responsibility for complex Database / WINDOWS Environments and is responsible for all change management. They are also responsible for the optimization, of the support process and proactive support.
The Database / WINDOWS Support Engineer is responsible to work on complex Database and WINDOWS issues, identify and solve 3rd level problems, keep close contact with the customer, coordinate data center, technician and network incident and implementation activities.
According to our service level agreements we commit to our customers short response times and to fix problems within a given timeframe.
To fulfil these tasks, regular standby and weekend work is expected. This person will need to be able to formulate and complete complex change management requests, with service quality always in mind.
Job Requirements – General
• At least 4 years practical experience in managing IT Infrastructure related Incidents & Problems.
• At least 2 years experience in managing high availability environments, and associated technologies
• Excellent Analytical problem-solving and root cause analysis skills must be able to demonstrate.
• Service oriented behaviour and communication to internal and external contacts
• Good communication skills (Communication to customers verbal and written is mandatory)
• Act as a key technical resource for all support and proactive service, to the Account Team, Customer, 2nd Line, and Management.
• Language: fluent in English
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering
• Formal IT qualification (VCP, or MCSE, or MSDBA, )
• Excellent understanding of ITSM\ITIL processes.
Job Requirements – SQL Server Specific
• Microsoft Certified DBA or preparing to attain / or equivalent experience
• At least 3 years practical experience in Windows200x administration, Win 2003 an advantage.
• Excellent understanding of high availability environments, MS cluster knowledge
• Complete understanding of how to administer SQL Server systems through enterprise manager, knowledge of SQL Server agent and jobs.
• Good understanding of SQL Server Environment architecture, and replication including data import / export, using Bulk Insert / DTS (Data Transformational Service)
• Hands-on experience of Database Backup and restore, full differential, and log backups, ability to describe a serious DB DR Situation.
• Ability to tune and optimize DB Access, and performance. Key words “SQL Profiler” and Index Tuning. Full understanding of Transact-SQL
• Understanding of stored procedures and how / when to use them.
• Lead patching efforts, and instruct 2nd line teams in process.
Job Requirements – Windows Server Specific
• Microsoft Certified System Engineer or preparing to attain / or equivalent experience
• At least 3 years practical experience in /Windows200x administration, Win 2003 an advantage.
• Excellent understanding of Windows high availability environments, MS cluster knowledge, can configure and manage Windows cluster environments
• Complete understanding of how to administer Windows Server
• Good understanding of Windows Server AD Environment architecture
• Hands-on experience of Windows Server Backup and restore, ability to describe a serious DB DR Situation. Can design and implement backup solutions and provide recommendations to enhance backup / restore strategies, can formulate DR procedures in a customer environment and carry out server restoration from data backups
• Ability to tune and optimize Windows Server Performance, can do performance tuning and deep level problem solving
• Lead patching efforts, and instruct 2nd line teams in process.
• Good at assessment, recommendations and standard development
• Can interpret what is important and what is superfluous on monitoring, able to work on template change
• Good at on advanced troubleshooting of network related issues
Advantageous
• Past hands-on Experience in consulting and DB Infrastructure Design.
